Enough has been said about the struggling newspaper industry, but here's a bit of good news. Numbers just released from Nielson/NetRatings show that traffic to the blog sites of the top 10 online newspapers jumped some 210% last year.

In December 2005, those newspapers counted a total of about 1.2 million blog readers; by this December just passed, the figure had surged to about 3.8 million. The increase was partly due to a jump in overall online traffic. But only partly: Nielsen/NetRatings said the more than two-fold increase in blog traffic corresponded to a much smaller 9% increase in unique users to overall Web sites. — Andrea Orr
