CNET News.com has an article about Cisco Systems Inc.'s conference in Las Vegas, at which chief executive John Chambers had some bold words about the company's future. He said the company expects to announce a new "advanced technology" about once every every three to four months in the coming fiscal year, which begins in August. These advanced technologies are areas that Cisco believes could reach $1 billion in annual sales.

Cisco plans to use both R&D and acquisitions in this drive for advanced technologies, and has done a very good job in past years in wireless, optical, home networking, storage networking, IP telephony and security. Chambers, however, thinks it can do better, "So far, we are six for six in the advanced technologies, which tells me that we could have been more aggressive," he said. — Brian Ward
