For the past decade or so mainstream media companies have been experimenting with ways to use the Internet and new technologies to make money. According to this article from Reuters, the focus has shifted to using the Internet to save money. Blog technology company Pluck Corp.'s service, BlogBurst, will provide headlines and articles from a network of 600 bloggers for newspaper publishers to use in the news or feature sections of both online and print editions.

The blog syndication network, in theory, would provide expert opinion pieces to newpapers enabling the coverage of more beats without adding additional salaries. For the bloggers, distribution of their material drives traffic back to their blogs and increases revenue from ads. Pluck has signed deals with Gannett Co. Inc., Washington Post Co., the San Francisco Chronicle, the Austin American-Statesman and the San Antonio Express thus far. — Brian Ward
