Unable (or unwilling) to acquire hot social networking sites Facebook Inc. or Bebo Inc., Yahoo! Inc. is building its own social job network. News.com has all the details about Kickstart, which connects college students with alumni who work at companies they may wish to join.

It's a clever idea. The question is whether Yahoo! is too late to the game and whether the product is innovative enough to get college students who have sold their souls to Facebook to give it a try. But the in-house product may also explain why Yahoo! balked at paying a high price in its negotiations with Facebook. —David Shabelman
