Semiconductor maker Entropic Communications Inc. has filed to raise $100 million through an initial public offering. It's the latest in a series of technology companies hoping to hit up the public markets and is backed by several well known investors such as Intel Capital, Cisco Systems Inc. and Motorola Inc. Venture firms CMEA Ventures (12.7%),  Redpoint Ventures (10.3%), Focus Ventures (6.5%), Granite Ventures (5.6%) and Mission Ventures (5.1%) all hold stakes in the company as well, for a grand total of $46 million in venture funding for the company.

Entropic reported $41 million in sales for 2006 and already has made half of that in the first quarter of 2007. It reported a net loss of $7.2 million for 2006 and lost only $1.1 million for the first three months of 2007. —Stacey Higginbotham
