InfoWorld has a great series of articles where it interviewed its list of the Top 25 CTOs at companies ranging from Home Depot Inc. to AT&T Inc. about business practices. Instead of advice on what types of servers to buy, the CTOs really emphasized how IT can affect businesses. Accenture CIO Frank Modruson devised a plan to keep 80% of his IT staff focused on keeping the business going and then separated 20% to focus on new projects and things that would improve operational efficiencies. Tim Stanley, CIO of Harrah's Entertainment Inc. , boosted revenue by 10% at the gaming company thanks to almost real-time customer relationship management that could track gamers' needs and offer appropriate incentives while they were still on the gaming floor. Most of the little features are worth a closer look, but for those really interested in implementation, it will require a deeper dive. — Stacey Higginbotham
