Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted down a net-neutrality amendment Wednesday. The amendment had the backing of major technology players Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Yahoo!, as well as disparate political groups such as Moveon.org and Gun Owners of America.

It's understandable that net neutrality draws the ire of so many, because the Internet has become a symbol of freedom, however as I said before, the knee-jerk regulation impulse is unnecessary at this point. With AT&T obligated to uphold net-neutral business practices for the foreseeable future any competitor who tries a tiered Internet access model will be begging customers to flee. The free market should handle this crisis and ironically AT&T's re-monopolization should insure that the Internet remains free. — Brian Ward
