In the good news/bad news arena today is this announcement from Google and XM Radio. The two companies will team up to enhance XM's advertising, the only problem is that advertising is what made a lot of people flee terrestrial radio for the uncluttered satellite world.

Both XM and Sirius currently have advertising on their talk radio stations, and XM also runs ads on some music stations due to a lawsuit lost to Clear Channel earlier this year. The Clear Channel debacle has given an advertising edge to Sirius, which bills itself as having 100% commercial-free music channels. I don't think it's a good idea for XM to draw attention to advertising in any way, shape or form at this point, especially with Sirius closing the gap in subscriber numbers. — Brian Ward
