The two satellite radio companies in North America, Sirius and XM, have been waging war for a couple of years now, and today's battle signifies a shift in the balance of power. XM has been the leader in both market share and technology since Sirius' inception. XM has released technology a full generation ahead of Sirius, but today Sirius was the first to bring video to satellite radio.

Sirius was right on schedule with the introduction of SiriusConnect SC-V1 Backseat TV, which is exactly what it sounds like. The service will allow users to listen to the radio and watch separate video content on the same time in different "zones," (front seat/back seat). The conversion kit will be available for $299 in the spring of 2007. See Orbicast for complete coverage and more photos like the one below. This isn't a good sign for XM. Sirius has been steadily closing the subscriber gap between the companies, XM's more-advanced technology had been a selling point for the company. — Brian Ward
