The wait appears to be nearly over for the early adopter Sirius subscribers who have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on a fully-portable Sirius satellite radio receiver. XM, the No. 1 satellite radio company, is on its second generation of portable receivers, but the Sirius Stiletto 100 is poised to raise the bar for satellite radio receivers.
The news was broken on Sirius Backstage, a forum for Sirius listeners. A forum member found an ad in a Crutchfield's catalog with pictures and details of the new receiver. Some highlights: Full portability, extended battery life, 100 hours of storage, and Wi-Fi capability. Wi-Fi is what separates this receiver from the competitors. The redundancy of having two different means of listening to Sirius content is crucial. The unit will retail for $399 from Crutchfields and should be available to order on September 1.
Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin gave the first glimpse of the Stiletto at the Deal's Convergence 2.0 conference in June. Below the fold compare the picture of the unit Karmazin flashed to the image from the catalog and draw your own conclusions. — Brian Ward
