TVtrip.com, an online search engine for hotels in Europe that features video clips, has secured $4.8 million in Series A financing from Balderton Capital (the newly named London-based European team of Benchmark Capital) and Partech International. The travel Web site was founded in May by four former execs from Expedia Europe.

TVtrip hired professional camera crews to shoot independent videos of hotels, rooms and environs so that travelers can make better informed decisions about where to stay. Site visitors can make reservations and get preferential rates through the company's partnerships with Booking.com and Venere.com. The company covers 10 major European cities including London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Berlin. By year's end, it expects to cover more than 1,500 hotels in 50 cities.

The innovative site is just another example of how video is poised to take off online. As Tech Confidential reported Wednesday, ABI Research forecasts that online video will spawn a multimillion dollar industry over the next few years. —Mary Kathleen Flynn

From: Mary Kathleen Flynn,

Hi Adina,

Thanks for your post on my blog about TVtrip.com.

I checked out Trivop.com and am interested.

Please keep me posted on financing developments. Am I right in thinking that so far there are only angel investors? Who are they?

If you are actively seeking--or receive--venture capital, please let me know as early in the game as possible.

Regards,
Mary Kathleen Flynn, Senior Editor, The Deal & Tech Confidential
