A pile of moneyIn one of the biggest VC deals of the year, Globus Medical Inc. raised $110 million in venture funding led by Clarus Ventures. This is the fifth and largest round of funding raised by the four-year-old company, which develops a variety of spine implants, and had sales of $82 million last year. The medical device maker plans to use the money to develop additional products and fund clinical trials. The funding comes a few days after Globus agreed to pay the U.S. subsidiary of Synthes Inc., a Swiss spinal implant firm between $13 million and $35 million as part of a legal settlement, according to The Philadelphia Enquirer. Synthes had sued Globus, which was founded by a group of former Synthes employees, for misappropriating trade secrets. —Stacey Higginbotham
