A spokesperson for Joost Operations SA declined to comment to The Deal on a PaidContent.org report that ex-Cisco Systems Inc. exec Mike Volpi will be named CEO of the Internet TV firm next week. A consummate dealmaker, Volpi would be a great get for Joost, which was started by Skype Technologies SA founders Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom. As general manager of Cisco's routing and service provider technology group, Volpi helped initiate and integrate about 75 acquisitions before leaving the company in Februrary. He may be the ideal candidate to grow Joost, which earlier this month secured $45 million in venture funding, led by Index Ventures and Sequoia Capital, into a plumb acquisition target or rollup machine. With any luck, the fruit won't fall far from the tree. After all, eBay Inc. paid $4.1 billion for Skype. —Mary Kathleen Flynn
