Here's a clever way to set yourself apart from competitors if you're one of the dozens of video-sharing Web sites: Host the online equivalent of, say, the Tribeca Film Festival. On Wednesday, Dailymotion is launching Cinema Dailymotion, an online screening series for full-length independent films. To create the series, Dailymotion teamed up with professional content developers, including IndiePix, a film distributor, and Film Independent, producer of the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival. The series kicks off with the online debut of "Red Without Blue," a critically acclaimed documentary about a pair of identical twins who face gender identity issues.
Dailymotion, founded in France in 2005, completed a $34 million Series B in August from Advent Partners LLP, AGF Private Equity, Atlas Venture and Partech International. Today it is the largest independent video-sharing site, according to ComScore. Compete data shows the company's number of unique visitors approaching 2.5 million, up from 1.5 million in February 2007.
