It turns out that chief technology officer Dirk-Willem van Gulik was fired by Joost Operations SA, according to GigaOm.

Gulik's new gig is chief technical architect of the BBC Future Media and Technology Group.

Meanwhile Joost --  the Internet TV startup co-founded by Skype's Niklas Zennstrom and headed by Mike Volpi, Cisco Systems Inc.'s former M&A pro -- is promoting a crony of Volpi's.

Matt Zelesko, who worked with Volpi at Cisco, has been named senior vice president of engineering. He has been with the company since October, working on an engineering hub for Joost in New York City, where the company is based. - Mary Kathleen Flynn
