Microsoft mulling purchase of Czech Internet company?

Even as it hovers on the brink of a potential hostile takeover battle to buy Yahoo! Inc. [YHOO], Microsoft Corp. [MSFT] is also reportedly exploring smaller acquisition targets to help it expand its Internet presence abroad. The Prague Daily Monitor reports that the software giant is in talks to buy the largest Czech Internet portal Seznam.cz.

While Seznam's largest shareholder is denying the sale reports, the Prague newspaper reports that Steve Ballmer is scheduled to meet next month with Ivo Lukacovic, who founded Seznam 12 years ago and still owns a 70% stake. It says the sale price would be roughly $1 billion. --Andrea Orr
