Billionaire investor Carl Icahn has increased his stake in struggling Motorola Inc. to 7.6%.

Icahn and his affiliates purchased 172.2 million Motorola shares for an aggregate price of $2.36 billion, including commissions, according to a Wednesday, May 7, filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

In a prior filing dated March 26, Icahn and affiliates had reported a 6.4% stake in the communications equipment and mobile-phone maker.
