In picking through the paper Form D filings at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, PEHub discovered that blogging site Tumblr Inc. has raised $750,000 in seed funding from Spark Capital and Union Square Ventures. Tumblr's product, Tumblelogs, looks like the missing link between micro-blogging site Twitter and blogware such as WordPress.

The other seed funding find in this batch of filings is GameLayers Inc., which raised $500,000 from O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, angels Joi Ito and Richard Wolpert. GameLayers is building what it calls passively multi-player online games. So far the best reason to check out the company is to see how skillfully it weaves Lolcats into its tag-line. I hope the cat didn't write the business plan. -- Stacey Higginbotham
