A group of angels and seed-stage specialists has backed Songkick.com Inc. of London, which tracks live music appearances and connects users with ticket information, in a round of undisclosed size. Funded initially last year by Y Combinator, Songkick has brought in Accelerator Group founder and Index Ventures partner Saul Klein, SoftTechVC's Jeff Clavier, Ticketweb co-founder Dan Porter, Music Nation's Peter Read, seed investment partnership Betaworks and unnamed investors for additional capital.
Songkick's service resembles Bay Area-based SonicLiving, which has gained considerable traction among early-adopting local users over the past couple of years. SonicLiving is currently bootstrapped, but is seeking a first institutional round of funding, according to founder Gabe Benveniste. Both services offer applications that crawl through a user's hard drive looking for music files, then suggest shows when related artists are coming to town.
Songkick also features blogging tools, ticket price comparisons and a concert recommendation application, while SonicLiving is more sharply focused on user profiles, friend lists and a people-matching engine based on musical taste. - Paul Bonanos
