A lot has been made of Vinod Khosla's interest in clean and green technology startups in recent months. The co-founder of Sun Microsystems and former general partner at Kleiner Perkins that made a fortune investing in communications equipment startups is now focusing his energy on green technology startups. He established his own firm, Khosla Ventures, to do it.

He delivered a keynote address this morning at the Always On conference held at Stanford University entitled "Saving the World from Oil - The Ethanol Alternative". I won't bore you with the details (you can see those for yourself on Khosla's Web site), but Khosla's most quotable comment was, "Corn ethanol is good, cellulosic ethanol is great." His conclusion is that we can eventually replace our oil usage with ethanol.
