Gina Bianchini, CEO of social networking platform Ning, compares a good social network to a good party. The host needs to keep the guests constantly entertained and introduce them to other interesting people.
While speaking as a panelist on the Social Networking panel at the Web 2.0 Expo this afternoon in San Francisco, she noted that many users are looking for instant gratification and can be compelled to make repeat visits to a social networking site if comments, pictures and posts are constantly being added. This, she said, leads to passionate and authentic communities.
Later, Bianchini spoke of one of the most exclusive social networks powered by Ning's platform; a group of the 1927 graduates from a dental school. She explained that the reunion organizer was using Ning to coordinate the festivities. So far, there is a grand total of six members in that particular social network.
That sounds like one heck of a party.
