Company: RazorGator
Description: Online ticket broker.
Competitors: StubHub, Craigslist, eBay
Location: Beverly Hills, CA
Amount Raised: $22.8 million
Round: Second
Date Announced: 3/15/06
VC Firms: Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Oak Investment Partners, Hercules Technology Growth Ventures, Steamboat Ventures
VC Directors: Russ Siegelman, Fred Harman
Quick Take: RazorGator bills itself as the online ticket brokerage specializing in "Hard to Get" seats. Then, why, pray tell, are 49ers and Raiders ticket packages offered on its NFL page? Despite that contradiction, RazorGator buys expensive tickets and sells them on to users. This differs from competitor StubHub, which operates an online marketplace that puts buyers and sellers directly in contact. Both companies have professionalized a lucrative sliver out of Craigslist and stand to profit. Yet, RazorGator's niche market and $48 million in venture capital already raised means returns will be muted. — Joshua Jaffe
