After the Media 2.0 panel held this morning at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, I asked Memeorandum proprietor Gabe Rivera why he hasn't expanded his platform to other verticals. It's something that's been nagging at me for a while considering that he's created what I consider to be the best news algorithm on the web and has only applied it to four verticals.

Rivera said he has tested it out on other verticals and it just hasn't worked. One reason is the linking patterns for other verticals. The other is that there aren't enough bloggers in all areas. I'm not really sure what linking patterns are off with other verticals but Rivera indicated that as blogging expands, expansion into other areas for Memeorandum is possible.
